Quilceda Creek “CVR” Columbia Valley Red Wine

The latest vintage of Quilceda Creek’s ever popular CVR blend is about to be released. It has yet to be reviewed by the wine critics, but the past few vintages received around 92 or 93 points, and chances are the 2014 will once again win favor with the usual suspects. Considering that their flagship Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon can be found online for $200 or more, this Columbia Valley Red Blend is a fantastic bargain.

As always, Quilceda Creek is pulling fruit from famous vineyards such as Champoux, Tapteil, and Wallula Gap Vineyards, while also adding their own estate Palengat Vineyard to the mix. The blend is 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec aged for 20 months is all French oak barrels. The result is a full bodied Bordeaux style blend with plenty of extraction and a deep dark hue. Best to give it some time and a decanting, as it is tight now,. and it should age fairly well. As it opens up, the nose smells of dark berries, cassis, and black cherries with hints of vanilla and graphite. Upon tasting, this wine will grip your palate with its fine tannins, and captivate your taste buds with notes of blackberry liqueur, anise, and black currants. As always, a seamless wine with much polish.
