Domaine Sangouard-Guyot 2015 "Terroirs" Pouilly-Fuisse

Domaine Sangouard-Guyot 2015 "Terroirs" Pouilly-Fuisse

The Domaine Sangouard-Guyot 2015 "Terroirs" Pouilly-Fuisse received 92 points from Wine Enthusiast Magazine, where it was also selected as Editor's Choice.

The Domaine Sangouard-Guyot "Terroirs" is completely sourced from one commune within Pouilly-Fuisse, known as Vergisson. It's aged for 8 months in 2/3 neutral French oak, and 1/3 stainless steel. Medium-full in body, it's a very balanced wine, offering a wonderful harmony between notes of fruit, earth, and oak. Upon first taste, I immediately take note of the great mouthfeel and pleasant creamy texture. The Pouilly-Fuisse shows notes of yellow apples and candied lemon, with hints of toast, freshly grated nutmeg, and roasted chestnut. Finishing bright and crisp with stoney minerality, this wine is excellent with food such as halibut or scallops serves with a mild cream or butter sauce.

The Chardonnays of France's Burgundy region are highly coveted, and their prices reflect that fact very well. It's not difficult to find Montrachet topping $100, but while the hype is centered on areas such as Montrachet, there are other places within Burgundy making excellent wine at great values for those willing to seek them out.

Domaine Sangouard-Guyot has been around since 1850. Their vineyards are exclusively planted with Chardonnay in Pouilly-Fuisse, which is within Burgundy's most southern reaches, just above Beaujolais.
